Each book depicts famous West Coast typographer Jim Parkinson’s and his display face Balboa and BalboaPlus. The series was featured in the UMBC Center for the Arts Senior Exhibition of Spring 2018 and was appointed an award for excellence. Both books exhibit typographic skill, formal page layouts, and visual appeal pertinent to the typeface itself.
My senior typography class was assigned to design and produce a type specimen booklet on a typeface of our choice. Being fascinated hand lettering artist, Jim Parkinson, I chose his condensed sans family, Balboa. This final project allowed me to be nominated and granted an award at our 2018 Senior Exhibition for Design Excellence.
